It wasn’t easy. There are millions of digital watches kicking around. And then there’s the GW-M5610. How do you beat that? It’s the perfect watch! Well, there was a way, and Casio found it. What if you take all the good stuff from the 5610, and add ABC (altimeter, barometer, compass) plus thermometer, a bigger, brighter display, titanium casing and bracelet, and a kickass red ‘firefall’ color theme. Now you got more perfect than perfect.
Why it’s better than the GW-M5610
- bigger display;
- better viewing angle;
- anti-reflective coating;
- altimeter;
- barometer;
- compass;
- thermometer;
- sunrise, sunset time display;
- full titanium case and bracelet;
- not too big;
- not too small;
- not too thick;
- not too tall;
- tougher;
- almost as light.
Other specs that don’t matter as much
- Auto light switch (highlights the display automagically);
- STN LCD panel (hence the wide viewing angle);
- Multi Band 6 atomic clock syncing;
- Atmospheric pressure tendency alarm;
- Low-temperature Resistant (–10°C/14°F – good for us Canadians);
- 100-meter water resistance.
Why it’s the best digital watch there is
Unlike most Pro-Trek watches, it’s not huge and heavy. Unlike most G-SHOCKs, it’s not made out of plastic. Unlike most digital watches, it’s got a sapphire crystal with great viewing angle AND anti-reflective coating. Unlike most watches, it’s solar, atomic, light, tough, properly sized and priced. What else would you want?
Okay, but how does it really look like?
I know, once you buy the thing, it looks like trash on your wrist. Not that one. In real life, it’s just a bit more dusty. But it does hold up.
Where to get it
I got this JDM (Japan Domestic Market) watch on eBay. You can also get the regular version, which is cheaper but isn’t titanium.
